1 pound pizza dough
5 tbsp Olive Oil
8-ounce sweet Italian sausagewith removed casing
to taste Kosher Salt
½ cup Green Bell Pepper
½ cup prepared marinara Pizza sauce
¾ cup grated Mozzarella
1/2 very thinly sliced bulb Fennel
3 thinly sliced Garlic cloves
flakes Crushed Red Pepper
(torn, for serving) Basil Leaves
What is Cast Iron Pizza Recipe and how to make it?
Pizza cooked in a cast-iron skillet gives the crust with a perfect crispy and chewy texture. To make this cast iron pizza recipe, all you need is a regular cast-iron skillet. A deep-dish pizza usually has the thick dough and tastes more crispy and delicious than the regular pizzas. Baking pizza in an iron skillet makes the crust deep golden brown and crispy at the bottom and cheesy on the top. You can make this pizza recipe very easily at home. Top the pizza with your desired toppings and cheese and you are good to go.
Tips to make Cast iron pizza Recipe:
- You can make your pizza sauce at home. Combine plain tomato sauce with garlic powder, onion powder dried basil and oregano and mix it well. Your homemade pizza sauce is ready.
- You can add veggies for toppings as per your desire in this recipe.
Put a rack on the top shelf of the oven and preheat it to 425 degrees f.
Place the pizza dough on a flat surface and drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil in it. Roll or stretch the dough to form a pizza crust of 14 inches
Take a large iron skillet and heat 2 tbsp of olive oil in it. Heat it on medium flame and add the cooking sausage in it. Break the sauce into small pieces using a wooden spatula and keep stirring it until brown. It will take around 5-7 minutes.
Remove the skillet from the stove and carefully place the pizza dough inside the skillet. You can use a spoon to help in extending the dough till the edges.
Sprinkle salt, and add marinara over the entire surface of pizza dough evenly. Top it with grated mozzarella cheese and Season with salt. Top it with bell pepper, grated mozzarella cheese and add cooked sausage.
Drizzle another 2 Tbsp. oil on it and let it cook on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes. Check underneath the crust, the bottom of the crust should be golden brown and crispy
Once the bottom turn golden brown, turn off the heat and transfer this skillet into the oven and bake pizza on top rack for about 10 minutes. Check it after 10 minutes, check if cheese is melted properly and crust turns golden brown around the edges, remove it from the oven once done and top it with red pepper flakes and torn basil. Sprinkle some salt and cut into wedges. Your pizza is ready, serve it hot and enjoy.
